With the support of members of the Shambhala People of Color Leadership, Casa Werma is offering this Awakening the Heart of Compassion: A People of Color Community Retreat.

In a time of so much suffering in our communities and countries, it is all the more important to gather and connect with our heart of basic goodness in a practice of community.

In this retreat our practices will include mindfulness-awareness, sending and taking (tonglen) and Shambhala vajrayana practices of ngondro and sadhana. Dharma talks and contemplation will offer an opportunity to explore and embody Mahayana teachings that we share – allowing a deep sense of kindness, wisdom, wholeness, and joy to emerge.
Intensive practice, guided group contemplation and experiential exercises, one to one meditation instruction will be offered.

All our meditation practices are about learning to recognize our basic goodness in the immediacy of the present moment, and then nurturing this recognition until it seeps into the very core of our being. The practice begins on the cushion and goes beyond the cushion into every aspect of the retreat — including meals, activities during open periods, mandala support roles (cleaning or food prep) and rest.

This retreat will be lead by an acharya, other senior teachers and meditation instructors.
This retreat will meet weekthun practice requirements.

This retreat will meet group practice requirements for Primordial Rigden ngondro, werma and Scorpion Seal practitioners.

This retreat is for any Shambhala practitioner who identifies as a person of color.

Retreatants will receive a list of practice and study materials to bring.
