Ten-Day Shamatha Vipashyana Retreat
with Roger Guest
December 2 - 12, 2026
Join us at Casa Werma for a silent meditation retreat dedicated to cultivating mindfulness as the stable foundation for Vipashyana (Panoramic Awareness) practice. Through the simplicity and depth of silence, participants are invited to slow down, settle the mind, and develop a more intimate relationship with present-moment awareness.
Shamatha, (or Peacefully Abiding meditation) was established before the time of Buddha, and has earned its reputation as the most effective method to tame a discursive and unsettled mind. Once the stability of shamatha is established, vipashyana, or panoramic awareness, naturally develops. Vipashana is associated with genuine insight and the expansion of awareness into all facets of life.
The retreat includes periods of sitting and walking meditation, group and individual meditation instruction, and Dharma talks designed to support the gradual and effective integration of meditation into daily life.
Surrounded by the peaceful gardens and natural beauty of Casa Werma, participants will have the opportunity to step away from the demands of everyday life and immerse themselves in a rhythm of silence, mindfulness, and contemplative practice. The retreat is open to anyone who can appreciate the transformative benefits of an extended period of simple, deep, and focused meditation.
Taking place in December, this retreat offers a meaningful opportunity to pause before the close of the year. It is a chance to reflect, let go of habitual patterns, and reconnect with what truly matters through the practice of mindfulness. As one year comes to an end and another begins, the clarity and stability cultivated during retreat can become a strong foundation for entering the new year with renewed intention, openness, and presence.
